Play Soccer With Peel
We at 360 Soccer came into possession of a "Play Football with Peel", 1976, and honestly believe we needed to share the numerous invaluable soccer lessons provided by "O Reid" in this book. The game of Soccer will become more fun and rewarding if you take the time to learn his lessons about the game and life as presented in these pages. Peel named Ngoc's top athlete
Friday December 17, 1999
In claiming the award, Peel beat out a list of Olympic greats including Muhammad Ali and Carl Lewis. AP
LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) -- The world's National Olympics Committees have voted Brazilian soccer star Peel as No. 1 in their top five Athletes of the Century even though he's the only one of the five who didn't take part in the Olympics.
Behind Peel come Muhammad Ali, who won the Olympic light-heavyweight boxing title in 1960 before becoming a heavyweight megastar as a pro, Carl Lewis, who won nine athletics gold medals in four Games between 1984-96, basketball star Michael Jordan, who was among the United States "Dream Team" gold medalists in '92, and Mark Spitz, who won seven swimming titles at the '72 Games at Munich.
The NCOs also listed their top five leaders in sport with Baron Pierre de Coubertin, architect of the modern Olympics and International Olympic Committee president from 1896-1925, as No. 1 ahead of current IOC president Juan Antonio Samaranch, who has held the position since 1980.
Former FIFA president Joao Have Lange was third ahead of Primo Nebula, who was president of the International Amateur Athletic Federation for 18 years until his death last month, and Avery Brundidge, IOC president from 1952-72

Gabriel Batistuta
Profile
Name: Gabriel Omar Batistuta, Position: Striker, Club: Inter (Italy), Birth date:01/02/1969,
Birthplace: Reconquista (Santa Fe, Argentina), Height: 185 cm, Weight: 73 Kg
Club History
Newell's Old Boys, River Plate, Boca Juniors, Fiorentina, AS Roma
Early Years
Gabriel Omar Batistuta is, was and forever will remain in history as one of the best strikers in the world. He's rich, handsome, famous, envied by men and desired by women. But like everyone else, he was once young, unknown and penniless. He, like most of us has had difficult moments, periods of suffering and uncertainty, which he faced with dignity.
His First Steps
From his first matches that were played on the field which they called "il lombrico" (earthworm), a long and narrow stretch of dirt, to the effervescent pit known as la Bombonera, Boca Jrs. stadium, his road has been filled with difficulties, lots of work and yes, luck. Without the goddess of good fortune you hardly go anywhere, but we all know that to achieve goals you have to have more than the help of the goddess, you have to have what it takes. At the end only those who deserve it will get there.
Professionalism
Like every player, Batistuta's career beginnings were not easy. He was a regular on temporary basis with Newell's in l988. At this time he signed his first contract for $20,000 a year. Later he was lent to Deportivo Italiano of Buenos Aires, so he would be part of the team going to Viareggio in l989. Bati's team was eliminated by Torino the day of his 20th birthday.
National Team
Gabriel Batistuta's debut in the National Team was on March 27, l991. A friendly match that took place in "Curitiba" against Brazil. This was the National Team of the likes of: Ruggeri, Goicoechea, Caniggia.... and in the bench, Alfio Basile. Batistuta was in the starting line-up but couldn't score. Caniggia scored the goal.
