شدد المهاجم الأسباني الدولي فرناندو توريس على أن الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز مازال هو الأقوى على مستوى العالم. ورغم أن الدوري الإنجليزي يبدو وأنه فقد بعض توازنه بعد رحيل عدد من لاعبيه إلى أسبانيا ، فإن توريس نجم فريق ليفربول ليس مقتنعا بهذا الأمر ، ويرى أن الدوري الأسباني مازال أمامه الكثير من الوقت قبل أن يمكنه الإدعاء بشأن انتزاع عرش الكرة العالمية من الدوري الإنجليزي. ويعلم توريس تماما ما طبيعة الكرة الإنجليزية والأسبانية ، بعدما قضى فترة طويلة مع أتليتكو مدريد قبل أن يرحل إلى "أنفيلد" في 2007 . وقال توريس للموقع الالكتروني لليفربول "الكرة الإنجليزية لديها شعبية ليس لها مثيل في جميع أنحاء العالم ، ليس فقط بسبب اللاعبين ولكن أيضا الأمر متعلق بالتاريخ والمتعة وأعداد المشجعين". وأضاف "الدوريات الأخرى يمكنها تعلم الكثير ، بما في ذلك الدوري الأسباني ، ريال مدريد تعاقد مع كاكا وكريستيانو رونالدو ، وبرشلونة لديه تشافي وليونيل ميسي ، ولكن الدوري الإنجليزي هو الأبرز حقا". ويأمل توريس حفر أسمه بأحرف من ذهب في تاريخ الدوري الإنجليزي هذا الموسم ، عن طريق التتويج بلقب المسابقة. ويعتقد الهداف الأسباني أن ليفربول قادر على إحراز الألقاب ، مشددا على أنه مستقتل لإحراز الألقاب خلال فترة وجوده مع فريقه الإنجليزي. وأوضح "الفوز بلقب الدوري هنا سيكون مثل الفوز بلقب كأس الأمم الأوروبية مع أسبانيا في العام الماضي ". واختتم توريس حديثه بالقول "بعد عشرة أعوام من اعتزالك اللعب فإنك ترغب في أن يكون لديك ميداليات وكؤوس ، ربما يكون لديك سيارة رائعة ومنزا ولكن الأمر ليس متساويا".
