He had recently called for a demonstration on behalf of victims of torture to take place on the 4th of April at the time of the inaugural Bahrain Grand Prix. Front Line is concerned that Abdul Raaof Al Shaieb has been arrested to deny him his legal right to speak out about human rights violations in Bahrain. “This is a shabby attempt by the Bahraini authorities to repress any discussion of their human rights record whilst the eyes of the world are upon them for the Grand Prix,” said Mary Lawlor, Front Line Director. “Abdul Raaof Al Shaieb should be released immediately.” Abdul Raaof Al Shaieb is an active board member of the Committee of Martyrs and Victims of Torture, a Bahraini human rights organization. He recently traveled to Geneva where the UN Commission on Human Rights is in session. Whilst in Geneva he met with the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture and the Committee for the Prevention of Torture. He had a petition of 33,000 signatures about torture in Bahrain, which had been presented to the King last year Abdul Raaof Al Shaieb returned from Geneva on the 28th of March and was arrested and held incommunicado on the 30th March. His family members have tried to meet him and were refused permission although they were allowed to bring him clothes. Two government controlled newspapers, the Bahrain Tribune and Gulf Daily News, publicised his arrest, and mentioned that he was arrested with a female domestic worker from Indonesia. The newspapers claimed that he'd had relations with her which was the reason for his arrest. The Prosecutor has ordered one week's detention pending investigation of the charges against him. The same two newspapers have recently been reporting that the government would come down hard on people organising demonstrations during the Formula 1. The Bahraini authorities have a history of fabricating charges against prominent human rights or political activists. The Bahraini Centre for Human Rights exposed an attempt last year by security officers to pressurize a woman into fabricating a rape claim against a former political prisoner. There is also a history of ill-treatment and torture of detainees in Bahrain. Those held incommunicado are often particularly at risk. Front Line is calling for the immediate release of Abdul Raaof Al Shaieb and for the Bahraini authorities to guarantee the rights of human rights defenders to publicly raise concerns about human rights issues within the country. The UN Declaration on Human Rights Defenders states that everyone has the right “freely to publish, impart or disseminate to others views, information or knowledge on all human rights and fundamental freedoms.” Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

mahbooooob17 Posted ابريل 3, 2004 Author Report Share Posted ابريل 3, 2004 ترجمة غير دقيقه اعتمد فيها على فهمي وترجمه الكترونيه تحتجز السلطات البحرينيه المدافع عن حقوق الانسان لحماية صورتها اثناء سباق السيارات الدولي عبد الرؤوف الشايب عرف بانه انسان محترم وناشط في مجال حقوق الانسان اعتقل من قبل السلطات البحرينيه في يوم الثلاثاء 30 مارس عقب عودته من لجنة حقوق الانسان التابعة للامم المتحدة في جنيف . دعا (عبد الرؤوف الشايب) مأخرا الى مظاهرة بالنيابه عن اللجنة الوطنيه للشهداء وضحايا التعذيب في الرابع من ابريل في وقت سباق البحرين الجائزة الكبرى سباق السيارات العالمية الافتتاحي front line قلق بأن عبد ارؤوف الشايب اعتقل لحرمانه من حقه القانوني للكلام عن حقوق الانسان في البحرين . هذه محاولة رثة من السلطات البحرينية لقمع اي مناقشة عن سجل حقوق الانسان في البحرين اثناء تسليط الاعلام العالمي على سباق الجائزة الكبرى سباق السيارات العالمية قالMary Lawlor مدير front line ان عبد الرؤوف الشايب يجب اطلاق سراحه فورا عبد الرؤوف الشايب عضو نشيط في الجنة الوطنية للشهداء وضحايا التعذيب ( منظمة حقوق انسان بحرينية) سافر مأخرا الى جنيف حيث انعقاد لجنة حقوق الانسان التابعه للامم المتحدة .وبينما كان في جنيف اجتمع بمقرر الامم المتحدة الخاص في شأن التعذيب ولجنة منع التعذيب وكان عنده عريضة موقعه تحمل 33,000 توقيع حول التعذيب في البحرين والتي قد كانت قدمت الى الملك في السنة الماضية عاد عبد الرؤوف الشايب من جنيف في الثامن والعشرين من مارس واعتقل في الثلاثون من مارس . افراد عائلته حاولو مقابلته لكن السلطات رفضت وسمحت لهم جلب ملابس له. صحيفتان مسيطرة عليهم الحكومه وكالة انباء البحرين واخبار الخليج نشرتا توقيفه وذكرتا انه تم توقيفه بصحبة عاملة اندونيسية ادعت الصحف بأن لديه علاقة معها وان هذه العلاقه كانت السبب لتوقيفه. وطلب المدعي حجزه لمدة اسبوع للتحقيق في التهم الموجهه ضده . نفس الصحيفتان مازالتا مأخرا تذكران ان الحكومه ستتعامل بقسوة مع المتظاهرين اثناء سباق الدرجة الاولى. السلطات البحرينية لها تاريخ في صناعة التهم ضد البارزين في مجال حقوق الانسان والنشطاء السياسيين . المركز البحريني لحقوق الانسان عرض محاولة في السنة الماضيه من قبل ضباط الامن للضغط على امرأة لكي تدعى الاغتصاب على سجين سياسي سابق . هناك ايضا تاريخ للمعاملة السيئة والتعذيب للمحجوزين في البحرين .وهؤلاء المحجوزون بشكل منعزل جدا خصوصا يكونون في خطر Front Line يدعون السلطات البحرينية للاطلاق الفوري لعبد الرؤوف الشايب وضمان حقوق مدافعي حقوق الانسان لاثارة المخاوف حول حقوق الانسان علنا في البلاد.اعلان الامم المتحدة بشأن مدافعي حقوق الانسان ان كل شخص يمتلك الحرية في انشر والنقل واذاعة المعلومات والرؤى في كل مايخص حقوق الانسان والحريات الاساسية.
